What’s a huddle?

I’m so glad you asked!

By definition a huddle is a “small group of people holding an informal, private conversation”. In football it’s “a brief gathering of players during a game to receive instructions.” I like these two definitions for several reasons and I want to unpack them a little.

1. A huddle is informal and private. This huddle website is going to be a space where we can say what we need to say. There are things about ministry that we can’t or we shouldn’t talk about with our ministries. I’m not saying we should hide or cover up things, but I am saying that there are aspects of serving in ministry that are private. It’s a place where we can be honest and open without worrying about making the church or even our specific congregants look bad. I want to be able to be open and honest and for me, that needs to happen outside of my ministry.
2. It’s a brief gathering. It’s not a formal long drawn out meeting. It’s not an overwhelming amount of content, or long winded meetings. You’ll have access to podcast episodes that will about 20-30 minutes long, newsletters with curated content, virtual get-togethers, and scholarship coaching opportunities. The idea is to give you content and ideas in bite sized portions so we can consume and then apply before moving on to the next.
3. A huddle is during a game. This huddle is for those of us who are in the thick of it. Those of us in the game, in real life ministry doing the things full time. It’s not for those in the audience or those in the stands or even those on the sidelines. It’s for those in the game, playing on the field, and doing the work. Huddles are for the real players and those of us in ministry, whether or not you’re on staff, getting paid for your ministry, or volunteering. You are a player and we are in this together.
4. A huddle is for instructions. Now I’m not going to be telling you what to do, I actually really don’t like being bossed around, but I will be coaching you. I can give you insight and guidance as we move forward. That’s what this huddle is for. Ministry wives are usually the ones doing the serving and this huddle is for you to be served.
